Marina di Castagnetta to Castellina Marittima

14 May
Leaving the coast and happy to be away from the mossies and the campground. Our first stop was Cecina where we finally found a bike store to replace Tracey's broken speedo (broken in transit) and helpful staff also were able to point us in the direction of the local library (bibliotec) where we monopolised their internet terminals for an hour or so to bring our blogging almost up to speed. Tracey also managed to book an overnight in Castellina Marittima while we had internet access.
The nice man at the grocery shop, who spoke excellent english, invited us to use his front room as a place to eat only to have howls of protest from his sister who would not hear of it. In the end we had a pleasant enough picnic by the river.

After lunch we headed north then inland towards Castellina Marittima, with Tracey in great trepidation of the climb that is usually associated with reaching places starting with castle or mont, she was not completely disappointed as the road tilted up for about five kms and rose about 400m.

Our hotel resembled a Tuscan villa and came equipped with magnificent views back to the coast.
We blew the daily budget on dinner that night with a fine feast and a bottle of vino at the next door restaurant, not cheap but very enjoyable.

  2. Amazingly green countryside... ask them if we can have some of their water. We'll swap them some uranium!

The sister of the man at the grocery shop sounds like a bit of a wet blanket.
