Braunau to Passau - June 10

June 10

After camping the night in Braunau at a nice quiet campground we headed out for Passau. After some glitches with our radweg navigation we decided to stick to the quiet roads for a while, this meant we made some good kms in good time.

Good fast riding on quiet roads

This is how I go up hills.

Stopped at a very pleasant konditeroi in the equally pleasant township of Oberndorf for coffee and to watch while Pat and Tracey hooked into some gluten laden strudel and cake.

Coffee - and glutens for some.

Stopped for a picnic lunch at Scharding market (near Neuhaus Amm Inn) and ate it beside the Inn River. After lunch and despite our success on the roads that morning we went back to the bike track figuring it would be flatter following the river. After about one click we came to a point where we had to wheel our bikes down some steps and Tracey decided to go back to the road. Bad decision the road between there and Passau had climb after climb and descents, of course, that ranged up to 20 per cent.

This is how Tracey looks after a 16 percent climb.

Stopping for coffee at a guesthouse provided panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and if we had but known it we were almost topped out. After another short uphill we had a great downhill of several kms to put us into Passau.

The reward for climbing.

Tracey on the downhill run towards Passau.

Crossing the Inn River into central Passsau.
Some quick inquiries at the information centre we booked into Weiner World which proved to be a nice hotel with the added benefit of being quite central. A quick look at the Dom Platz and St Stephens Cathredal finished a pretty successful day.

St Stephens Cathedral.
