Left our very pleasant campground at Schlogen in good time this morning hitting the delightful little town of Aschach for our habitual mid morning coffee in its delightful square. In between coffee and Linz I was nearly taken out by a young Austrian cyclist (well not really that close) anyway at the next turn in the cycle track when we were all looking for directions she pulled up alongside and to cut a long story short our group expanded by one.
At Wilhering we crossed the Danube by ferry once more and were surprised mid-stream by the wail of air raid sirens, while keeping an eye open for Stukas we hurriedly tried to find out what was going down (never did find out, apart from it being some local custom).
Luncheon in Linz with Sonja turned into a bigger and longer than usual deal and after an exchange of contact details we preceded to visit the Arts Electronica Museum/Technical expo, bit of a disappointment for us, may be good for those with more time on their hands and not looking for instant gratification. While Sonja departed to pursue her habit of taking an afternoon nap on the banks of the Danube.
With no campgrounds in evidence we tried our hand at one of the local zimmer freis and got bed and breakfast for €20 at Stephanies in Abwinden. Stephanie immediately announced, in her limited English, that now we would see how real Austrians lived. And we did complete with a multitude of holy images, statuettes, bibles and missals. But it was a great place to spend an evening with a gracious host and an excellent breakfast next day.
